This is a lightweight, light-hearted item, the title of which, I fear, will not be popular with partners of magic collectors.
When I was young I would help to sort through boxes from family store rooms. The contents of the boxes went back 50 years or more. My father always told me that if I found a newspaper, it had been saved for a reason. The task was to find out the reason before deciding whether to throw it away. Some years ago my wife Anne and I found a 31 August 1929 Dalton’s Weekly newspaper in a box. Interestingly, a piece had been torn out of page 12. Anne ordered a copy of page 12 from the British Newspaper Archive. It turned out that the missing piece included an advertisement for a house in Kent which was for sale.
Lewis Davenport bought the house, Ivydene, in 1929 and it became the Davenport family home. A printing shed, workshop and extra storage were added, turning Ivydene into an important part of the family business.
Ivydene is a fond memory from my childhood and the newspaper is a valued item in the collection.
