From August 1935 to April 1936 Davenports had a second shop in London. It was at 71 Charing Cross Road, in the heart of the West End. Gus Davenport was the manager.
Of all the shops Davenports occupied in London, this is the only one we know for which film exists of the inside. The probable reason is that normal shop lighting was never bright enough to allow good quality film to be obtained. Nevertheless, the film captures Gus’s sense of fun – he was known for his exuberant sense of humour which made him very popular.
