In the mid-19th century, diorama and panorama entertainments were very popular. A diorama typically consisted of a 3D model or miniature scene with realistic props, terrain and figures. In contrast, a panorama was a wide unbroken scene captured in a 2D painting.
In this PDF there are ephemera relating to these entertainments at the Egyptian Hall from 1849-51. The Hall hosted:
• The panorama of the Nile and
• The diorama of the Holy Land.
Indeed, for a period of time both were shown in separate rooms at the Hall. Click on Details to see the PDF which includes much information on what visitors to the Egyptian Hall would see.
