It was in 1905 that J N Maskelyne moved his magic shows from the Egyptian Hall, where he had been established for over 30 years. His new home was St George’s Hall, a far larger theatre. He opened with a full-length magical play which was an expensive failure. Anne explains how this resulted in David Devant becoming a managing partner in the new Maskelyne and Devant partnership.
1905 also saw the foundation of The Magic Circle. The article includes how the Maskelyne family helped the society in its early years.
