The Demon Silver Boxes

The Davenports advertisement explains that a borrowed and marked coin is caused to vanish, only to be found inside two locked boxes in the middle of a ball of wool. At first I thought we had an example of this trick in the collection. However on closer inspection only one box is lockable and the detailed design of the two boxes mean they would not be suitable for use with a coin. The second image shows this pair of boxes. The curator would welcome any thoughts on their intended use, maybe finding a signed billet inside two boxes, the inner one of which is locked?
