Herbert J. Collings and Maskelynes Entertainment Agency. A children’s show in 1934

Herbert J. was a successful magician who performed for both adults and children. His autobiography may be found here. He was versatile, performing both in western evening dress, and also in Chinese costume under the name Col Ling Soo. This item is unusual because, drawing on the Davenport Collection archive, it takes us back to 1934 and uses the contempory letters to follow the story of how, and why, Collings gained this booking, for which his fee was five guineas.
