Printed photographs of the triple lantern projector and J.N. Maskelyne with Zoe

The photograph on the left shows the triple lantern projector at the Egyptian Hall, London. One of its uses was to show lantern slides while the spools of film for the animated photographs were changed. Maskelyne’s automaton Zoe could draw pictures of many well known personalities.


Size The sheet of paper is 380 x 255mm.
Date The dates the photographs were taken are not known, but Zoe was introduced in 1877 and the triple lantern projector was still in use circa 1900.
