This was a gift from Wynne Davenport to John Davenport. It was on display in the Davenport family home, Ivydene, for many years. The base is inscribed ROLAND PARIS. The lampshade fabric is not original.
The photograph illustrated here is from one of three German Art Deco period decorative goods catalogues. All three catalogues have a monogram on the cover (also illustrated) but we do not know the company’s name. The curator would welcome any information on this company. The probable date of the catalogues is 1920s or 1930s. The statuette in the catalogue is labelled Nr. 2206 “Mephisto”. It stands on a marble base.
