Edward Victor (1887-1964) was well known for his skilful and entertaining magic and hand shadows. He had excellent manipulation skills and, like many magicians, included tricks with thimbles. The small size of thimbles often made it difficult for them to be seen throughout a large theatre. To overcome the problem magicians would use bright colours or, as in the case with Victor, cover them in glass brilliants that would sparkle in the spotlight. This storage box used by Victor shows the care he took to keep his manipulation thimbles in top condition.
