The show played various dates around the UK in 2021 and 2022. The show featured four magicians from The Magic Circle: Megan Swann, Danny Lee Grew, Dean Leavy and either Scott Penrose or Lance Corporal Richard Jones. Scott had recently located and renovated an early copy of Psycho and this was featured in his act. John Davenport caught the show when it appeared at The Commemoration Hall in Huntingdon on 23 October 2021.

Front page article about Uri Geller in the UK’s ‘Daily Star’ newspaper

The Daily Star is a red top tabloid. In March 2021 the Ever Given container ship became stuck in the Suez Canal causing huge disruption to the world’s shipping. Uri Geller spotted a publicity opportunity and the headline of the Daily Star was “Help It Round The Bend: spoon botherer Uri Geller needs you – at exactly 11.11am – to use the power of your mind to get this bloody ship shifted. .” The article on page 5, also illustrated, shows that Geller had doubled his chance of success by saying he wanted everyone to visualise the ship moving at 11.11am and 11.11pm today. Unfortunately mind power did not do the trick.

The Disappearing TV Paper Licence Trick

The Disappearing TV Paper Licence Trick

The UK TV licencing company sent out this note to advertise the fact that a paper licence was no longer needed. One side of the note says ‘Make your paper licence magically disappear!’ The other side includes the instructions as to how you can scrunch your TV licence into a tight ball and then magically make it vanish.

Cut and Restored Banknote by Chris Wardle

Cut and Restored Banknote by Chris Wardle

Chris Wardle has been developing the theme of cut and restored for some years: the basic plot of cutting and restoring a ribbon goes back at least to the 1930s. In this trick Chris has come up with a way of putting a borrowed £5 polymer note between the two halves of a bent playing card. The magician takes a pair of scissors and cuts right through this ‘sandwich’. The card ends up in two pieces but, surprisingly, the magician restores the note to as good as new. Any faint hearted magician can perform the same trick on a ribbon rather than a bank note.

Hotel Chocolat novelty bat box for Halloween 2021 chocolate

Hotel Chocolat novelty bat box for Halloween 2021 chocolate

This eye catching novelty design was used by the UK company Hotel Chocolat to contain some of their Halloween 2021 chocolate. A clever feature of this box is that the wings of the bat are initially held in place at the back of the box. They can easily be released and bent forward when required.

Dragon automaton

Dragon automaton

Made by Timberkits, UK. The automaton is a wooden kit for home assembly. Each time the handle is turned the dragon lunges forward and opens its mouth. This was a gift to John and Anne Davenport from Cambridge magician Tony Middleton in 2021. Tony assembled and painted the kit, making use of modelling clay to make the shape more dragon-like.
