This trial gave much publicity to Maskelyne who demonstrated how spirit writing can be achieved without supernatural intervention. The report was in the 21 October 1876 issue. It started on page 389, which included this sketch of the courtroom, and ended on page 390. The second illustration is a composite of the text of the full article.
